FAQ
Everything to know
before setup.
Compatibility, installation, MCP, plugins and security — without unnecessary jargon.
Which Ableton versions does TrackCloser support?+
The current beta targets Ableton Live 12 Standard and Suite on macOS 13+ Apple Silicon. Live Lite, Intro, Live 11, Intel Mac, Windows and Linux are not supported yet.
Do I need Claude Code or Codex?+
Yes. TrackCloser supplies Ableton tools; Claude Code or Codex supplies intelligence and conversation. One must be installed and signed in with your own account.
Do I need to create an API key?+
Not for the normal flow. TrackCloser connects to the Claude Code or Codex you already use and stores no TrackCloser AI key.
What is MCP?+
MCP is the protocol that lets the AI interface communicate with TrackCloser. It does not grant unlimited direct access to Ableton: requests go through defined, validated actions.
How does installation work?+
Install TrackCloser, add the Ableton bridge, then click “Connect Codex” or “Connect Claude”. Built-in diagnostics verify each local connection.
Are my audio files uploaded to the cloud?+
No by default. Projects, samples and audio files stay on your computer. Only a compact summary of required context is sent to the assistant.
Can TrackCloser damage my project?+
Important actions are shown before execution. The MVP excludes deletion, flattening, freezing and destructive operations. Saving before early workflows is still recommended.
Does it work with my plugins?+
TrackCloser can organise tracks containing your plugins, but does not promise universal control of Serum, FabFilter or other third-party plugins at launch.
What experience level is required?+
TrackCloser mainly serves intermediate producers who can build a loop but want to arrange, organise and finish sessions more effectively.
Can it prepare my session for mixing and mastering?+
Yes for analysing organisation, levels, cleanup, groups and headroom checks. It provides a contextual checklist but does not replace a mixing or mastering engineer.
Can I review every change?+
Yes. Write tools require explicit approval. Sensitive changes also use the current project revision to avoid acting on stale state.
How do updates work?+
The app and bridge are versioned together. Compatible updates will include clear notes on changes and supported environments.
Is an internet connection required?+
Claude Code or Codex may need internet depending on your account and model. The Ableton bridge, MCP server, action execution and key analysis stay local.
What are TrackCloser credits for?+
They measure TrackCloser tool usage: detailed reads, analyses, actions and multi-step workflows. They do not pay for Claude or Codex tokens, which remain tied to your own AI account.
Are TrackCloser and Claude/Codex billed together?+
No. The TrackCloser subscription covers the MCP connector, Ableton bridge, workflows, updates and your credit allowance. Any Claude or Codex subscription remains independent.
Can I use TrackCloser on two Macs?+
Yes. One plan supports up to two active Macs at once, such as a laptop and a studio Mac. Your account area lists them and lets you revoke one before connecting another.
